Modern Kitchen Remodel
Modern Kitchen Remodel
This Modern Kitchen Remodel in Madison’s Shorewood Hills neighborhood features custom cabinets, local Wisconsin Urban Wood, and a showstopping waterfall countertop. Blue Terra Design designed this kitchen incorporating the same beauty of the outdoor scenery inside the home as well. We made the cabinets out of Quarter Sawed American Walnut. In addition, we accented the peninsula with wood paneling and built custom floating shelves. In both applications, we utilized wood from Madison, WI. These cabinets are extremely eco-friendly and great for people with strong chemical sensitivities. Most importantly, they contain no VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
Designers are using waterfall countertops more and more in modern and contemporary kitchen designs. Traditional horizontal surface counters end at the edge of a line of cabinets. Unlike single surface countertops, waterfall countertops continue to drop vertically down the sides as well. As a result, this creates a continuous flow that goes all the way down to the floor.
Designers also use waterfall countertops for a variety of other functional purposes.
First off, installers can hide the side of a less attractive cabinet or appliance with a waterfall countertop. The vertical element gives a room a clean, polished, highend feel. In addition, waterfalls can also protect the side of your cabinet and appliances from everyday wear and tear. Cabinet side panels are prone to scratches and dings if you have either kids or pets. It’s just due to the nature of the softer material. Waterfall countertops, however, are made out of a hard and sturdy variation of stone. Hence, the chance for damage is greatly decreased.
Most of all, waterfalls create a focal point in your kitchen. You’ve purchased a beautiful stone, why not focus on it? Waterfalls are an application that isn’t seen in the average kitchen. As a result, they elevate your kitchen and take it multiple steps above normal.
In conclusion, designers use waterfalls for a variety of functional and aesthetic purposes. While they protect your cabinets, they also hide appliances and elevate your kitchen to a level of luxury that will probably be showcased at your next gathering.
